NEW YORK, NY (November 3, 2014) – Yesterday, some 50,564 participants crossed the finish line after running across the five boroughs of New York City, in the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon. As part of the preparation for this global sporting event, a New York City-based networked technology and systems integrator, Virsig, LLC. provided technological assistance that increased operational safety and situational awareness.

Virsig, a platinum performer in the national IP network and electronic security industry, engineered a networked technology package for the Marathon, that was supported by several global technology partners including: Sony; Firetide, Inc.—a Division of UNICOM Global; Milestone Systems and Network Video Technologies.

Firetide, Inc.—a Division of UNICOM Global, provided dual radio / tri-band spectrum Wireless Mesh Nodes that securely linked the latest ultra wide dynamic range IP surveillance cameras provided by Sony. The video was coordinated through Milestone Systems XProtect Corporate, a powerful IP video management software. Network Video Technologies (NVT) supplied long distance IP Ethernet video transmission system. Video storage and viewing station equipment was being provided by Seneca.

“Utilizing high-resolution cameras, wireless mesh network technology, and associated infrastructure is rather new to the marathon sporting world, but it’s a symbiotic relationship that strengthens overall safety” said Glenn Taylor, Executive Director of Virsig. “Our partnership with Firetide, Sony, Milestone Systems, Network Video Technologies, and Seneca exemplifies how even large corporations can rally together to support a common cause.”

Adam Roth, VP of Technology for Virsig said: “The same cutting edge video technologies used in Europe, Africa and Asia throughout hospitals, universities, corporations and municipalities, is assisting with safety operations right here at New York City’s largest sporting event—and it’s very effective.”

With participants from over 130 countries, cheered on by one million spectators—this year’s 2014 TCS New York City Marathon (the world’s largest marathon), has proven once again to be the preeminent global road race.
